Settle It

Football squares for the big game

Settle It is a new take on football squares. No grid to draw, no squares to hand out, no numbers to pull from a hat. Everyone scans the TV, gets numbers, and the score settles every quarter.

One number, from both scores

When a quarter ends, take the last digit of each team’s score and add them. The last digit of that is the winning number.

How it works

  1. 1

    Scan the TV

The code is on the big screen. Phone out, name in, you’re playing. Nothing to download.

  2. 2

    You get numbers

The ten digits, 0 to 9, get split between everyone playing. Play for yourself, or team up as a crew.

  3. 3

    A quarter ends

Add the last digit of each score. The TV shows the winning number, and the winners’ phones buzz.

  4. 4

    New numbers

Numbers are dealt again every quarter, so a bad number lasts one quarter, not the whole game.

Questions

How does a classic squares board work?

It’s a 10 × 10 grid. Each team gets a row of digits, 0 to 9, drawn at random, so every box pairs one digit for each team. When a quarter ends, the box that matches the last digit of each team’s score wins. Settle It keeps the best part, the score picking the winner, and drops the grid.

Is there a football squares app?

Settle It runs in any phone’s browser: scan the code on the TV and you’re in, with nothing to download. If you want it on your home screen, get the app.

Do people pay to play?

Not in Settle It. It’s free to play, and no purchase is needed to win. If a bar or a host puts up a prize, it comes from them, not from Settle It.

How many people can play?

At home, up to 10 of you, free. At a bar, the whole room. When more people play than there are numbers, numbers are shared, and everyone holding the winner wins the quarter.

Does it work for other sports?

Yes: basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, NASCAR, UFC and more. Real games start and settle themselves on the live score. The official rules have the details.

Run a bar?

Put Settle It on every TV for the big game. The whole bar plays, and your specials share the screen.
